Antenatal acupuncture is able to reduce the length of labour by an average of about two hours in all healthy pregnant women (statistically demonstrated in first-time mothers-to-be by a study at the Mannheim University Hospital).
Acupuncture causes the cervix to ripen and this antenatal procedure is initiated from the 36th week of pregnancy. Acupuncture is not possible in multiple pregnancies (twins) or with a breech presentation.
If there are complications during the pregnancy or if you have any pre-existing diseases, acupuncture is only possible following consultation with, and with the agreement of, your doctor. Between three and a maximum of five once-weekly sessions are recommended.
